Dog Grooming Information

Brushing and combing

Every groom begins with a thorough brush and comb through the coat to remove loose hair, tangles, and knots that may be causing discomfort. This helps prepare the coat for bathing and allows us to work more comfortably and safely throughout the groom. For dogs that are groomed regularly, this part of the process is usually quick and comfortable.

The Bathing Experience

Your dog is bathed using high-quality shampoo and conditioning products chosen to suit their coat and skin needs. This part of the groom helps cleanse the coat, freshen your dog up, and leave them feeling comfortable and clean.

For dogs with heavy shedding, we can also provide a specialised de-shedding treatment to help reduce loose hair and improve coat condition.

If needed, anal gland expression can also be provided as an add-on service. This may help relieve discomfort and support your dog’s hygiene and wellbeing.

Blow Drying

After bathing, the coat is dried using professional drying equipment designed to dry efficiently while helping to lift loose hair and improve the coat’s finish. This stage also helps us prepare the coat for trimming and styling.

To help keep dogs more comfortable during drying, we use Happy Hoodies where appropriate to soften the sound and help reduce stress.

Finishing

The finishing stage includes clipping, trimming, and scissoring to tidy the coat and create a clean, polished result. Styles can be completed in line with breed standards or tailored to the owner’s preferred look, depending on the dog’s coat type and condition.

Important Information
We always handle dogs with care and use grooming equipment responsibly, but grooming does involve sharp tools and animals can sometimes move unexpectedly. While we take every precaution, minor incidents such as small nicks, scratches, or nail quicking can occasionally occur.

In some cases, grooming may also reveal existing skin, coat, or health issues that were not visible beforehand, or may aggravate a pre-existing condition. For this reason, please let us know about any medical history, sensitivities, behavioural concerns, or previous grooming issues before your appointment.

By booking with Powderpuff Dog Grooming, you acknowledge that grooming is carried out with care, but that some risks are inherent in the grooming process.
